On May 23, the infamous Title 42 order, which under the pretext of fighting COVID repelled millions of migrants at the southern border of the United States, will be lifted. Yet on its own this is unlikely to change the situation for the 11 million undocumented people in this country who daily risk deportation or for the thousands of Mexicans, Central Americans, Haitians, and now Ukrainians demanding refuge.

These have been two catastrophic years for migrant families and workers on both sides of the border, thanks to the criminal COVID policies of the Trump-Biden governments. They have brought death, destitution, violence, discrimination and racism that only add to the decades of U.S. imperialist economic and environmental depredations in Latin America.

Millions of people have converged on the borders of this country demanding refuge, only to be repressed and repelled repeatedly by both Democrats and Republicans, the same ones who have systematically denied immigrants the most elementary rights. But immigrants and the working class of this country have not taken it lying down; these two years have also been times of intense struggles and strikes against exploitation and oppression.

Today, more than two months into a war against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, migrants and workers worldwide are facing a new danger: that U.S. and NATO imperialism will transform this war for Ukrainian self-determination into a Third World War that threatens humanity as a whole. Only with more organization and struggle will we be able to stop this escalation and at the same time win full rights for all immigrants in this country, the destruction of ICE, and the demolition of borders that only serve the capitalists.

Don’t miss out on this chance to discuss and organize with activists of the immigrant rights movement!
