The people of Puerto Rico have shown tremendous resilience despite the onslaught of natural disasters. Climate catastrophe has been made increasingly devastating by the legacy of U.S. colonialism. For many generations, way before Trump, the people of Puerto Rico have been exploited, robbed of their resources, and rendered unable to determine their own future.
The struggle for self-determination expressed last year through the mass movement that ousted corrupt sexist and homophobic Governor Ricky Rossello Nevares was only the most recent expression of a profound discontent. Panelists will talk about the struggle on the ground today and attitudes toward the upcoming elections and a resolution on statehood.

Hear our panel of three speakers:
Francisco Santiago — Co-National Secretary, El Movimiento Independentista Nacional Hostosiano (MINH)
Paul Figueroa — Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) candidate for San Juan city council
Monisha Ríos — Persian Gulf-era army veteran, social worker, and doctoral candidate in liberation psychology dedicated to exposing U.S. war crimes and crimes against humanity. Organizer of MIRA, a project to support the fight for peace, friendship, and solidarity between the peoples of an independent Puerto Rico and the world.
