A number of protesters were arrested while peacefully demonstrating on Saturday, Aug. 8, in downtown Stamford, Conn. The activists were calling for justice for Steven Barrier, a 23-year-old Stamford resident who died in police custody in October last year.
Video posted on social media shows Stamford police officers punching, pushing, and throwing protesters to the ground. These officers come from the same department as those responsible for Steven’s death.
At least seven activists were detained. Bail was set between $1000 and $10,000, and all attained release by the evening. The organizers are asking that donations to the bail fund be sent to the Connecticut Bail Fund or @Maria-Altamura on Venmo.
