Hundreds March to Save CCSF: Rally Report & Pictures

Hundreds of people gathered in a Rally today in front of San Francisco City Hall to protest against the threats to shut down City College of San Francisco (CCSF). Students, Professors, community members, unions and political organizations were present, showing the great support City College enjoys among its community. The Rally was organized by the “Save City College Coalition”, an organization that seeks to defend CCSF from the recent attacks it has been suffering.

Demonstrators demanded full funding to City College and to the whole public education system, and rejected the Accreditation Commission´s budget cut proposals and threats. “We demand that City Hall and Mayor Lee take action to stop this absurd attack against City College, instead of only giving vague declarations, which only favors ACCJC, as they have done so far”, said one of the activists in the demonstration.

La Voz de Los Trabajadores/Worker´s Voice was present, showing its support and proposing the continuation of the struggle: “We think this was an important step ahead, uniting everyone to support CSSF. Now we must start a discussion on what is the way for us to win this fight, which in our opinion is to build towards a strike movement at CCSF”, said an activist of La Voz.

After the March 14th Rally, organizers intend to continue the struggle until their demands are met. The next activities are:

March 20th – Meeting to evaluate the Rally and plan next steps (At CCSF Mission Campus)

April 17th – New Demonstration at City Hall
