Massacre in Pinheirinho: a traditional right-wing party leaves hundreds of men, women and chidren in inhuman conditions.Dilma: expropriate the land and hand it over to the Pinheirinho families. In a country governed by a woman this cannot go on. Women’s Secretariat of the IWL-FI (International Workers’ League – Fourth International wishes to express our repudiation of the eviction of Pinheirinho in Sao Jose dos Campos (Sao Paulo) and the brutality has been behaving against the 6000 displaced people living in the area, all of whom are workers in charge of children and old people. Geraldo Alkmin, governor of Sao Paulo and Eduardo Cury, mayor of Sao Jose dos Campos have proved how indifferent can PSDB can be when dealing with poor people. They wish to criminalise poverty and the struggle of the homeless. What is so shocking is that a woman is at the head of those who have delivered this blow against the working class and the toiling masses: Judge Marcia Loureiro. This judge is responsible for having signed the order of retrieving the land and expulsion of the inhabitants. Totally insensitive to what was the certain fate of these families, the small children, many of them still in their mothers’ arms, playing in the street with no shelter at all: the judge did not hesitate at having the order complied with. Her hand did not quake when she signed such a hateful order even though she knew that this would spell great ordeal for many people and even death for many adults and children whose only “crime” had been to build households on an abandoned plot of land so as to ensure a rood over their heads, which is the first item on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that the Brazilian government had signed and swears to comply with. During the World Social Forum held in Porto Alegre, President Dilma Rousseff has just stated that what happened in Pinheirinho was a brutality. Immediately she said, she could do nothing, but the Federal Government has all the necessary requirements to resolve the issue with suitable measures. The expropriation of this piece of land is a political obligation of a government that has been elected with the votes of the poor population of this country. In a country governed by a woman, pregnant women, mothers with their babies and old women should be displaced, to live in the streets, with no food just the way it is happening in Pinheirinho. Right now, all promises of putting an end to poverty must turn into action. Dilma can do much more than what she has done so far. As the top leader of this country she can solve this problem. We wish to express our most heartfelt repudiation of the PSDP and the judge Marcia Loureiro. It has been the clearest evidence that there is no such thing as sisterhood of all women. The only brother and sistehood that can be found is that of class for it draws together men and women fighting against oppressors and exploiters: It is the only brotherhood we can rely on in the face of the massacre when in need of aid for families that are now left adrift. National and International working class, with all those courageous women in the lead must take this task into their hands! Long live the women of Pinheirinho! Long live the unity of men and women of the working class! Decent housing for everybody now! Secretariat of Women of the IWL.FI |
