\nThe overwhelming triumph of NO on the Greek referendum (61.29%) is, against all obstacles, a victory of the people.
\nIt is an unprecedented defeat on the Troika, Angela Merkel, Fran\u00e7ois Hollande, Mateo Renzi and Mariano Rajoy; it\u2019s the defeat of terrorist blackmail of imperialism that, after plundering and sinking an entire country throwing millions into poverty, has the nerve to say, “it\u2019s us or the abyss.”
\nThe NO was the vote of those who have no jobs, those who had their wages and pensions cut down, those who have no access to social security and basic services that were destroyed to pay an illegitimate and odious debt; NO was the answer to all who live on the edge, product of a policy imposed by the imperialist parasites and their accomplices, the banks and the Greek big bourgeoisie.
\nThe NO vote, at the same time, is a rejection of the structural adjustment policies pursued by all EU governments and lays bare the shameful attitude of the governments of debtor countries like Portugal, Ireland or Spain. The NO openly puts into question the credibility of the Eurozone and of the EU and exposes the character of the ECB, which is a political tool that blocks funds of Greek banks, causing anguish in pensioners. It lays bare once again the EU\u2019s nature, an instrument of imperialist finance capital which does not admit the slightest glimmer of the people\u2019s sovereignty, an instrument at the service of plunder and humiliation of the European peoples. The NO is the reaffirmation of the Greek people to defend their national sovereignty.
\nThe NO drives and encourages, in all European countries, the workers’ resistance against austerity and counter-reforms. It allows all debtor countries to organize the fight for NO to austerity and the solidarity and unity of the workers with the Greek people.
\nThose who, like the KKE (Greek Communist Party), decided to call for abstention helped with their sectarianism all enemies of the NO and promoted the division of the working class in Greece and Europe.
\nThe political defeat of imperialism is also the defeat of the YES front led by the parties that signed the Memorandum, the New Democracy and PASOK, the parties of bankers and the Greek big bourgeoisie which, along with imperialism, want to put an entire country on its knees and show the world that there is no other way out than absolute submission.
\nBut the political defeat suffered by imperialism and the Greek big bourgeoisie did not mean its liquidation at all. The Merkel-Hollande\u2019s declaration that the doors are open to negotiation and the statement of Alexis Tsipras that an agreement can be reached in 24 hours, casts doubt on the victory of the referendum.
\nTsipras: NO\u2026 but YES
\nAfter the overwhelming victory of the NO, the party of the Greek bankers, New Democracy and its representative, Antonis Samaras, said: “The government now has the responsibility to bring an agreement that can prevent the country from sinking. Some in Europe translate the victory of the ‘no’ as the will to leave the euro zone.” And adds: now the goal is to achieve a “sustainable” agreement.
\nTsipras said that the NO victory was a mandate \u201cto strengthen our negotiating position to seek a viable solution.\u201d And to \u201creach a sustainable deal to tackle Greece\u2019s debt crisis.\u201d The coincidence in the terms used by Tsipras and Samaras is the result of the meeting convened by the Syriza-ANEL government with the YES parties (New Democracy, PASOK, To Potami) less than 24 hours after the victory of the NO vote. The joint statement of the YES front with the NO front says:
\n\u201cThe recent verdict of the Greek People is not an instruction of rupture, but a mandate to pursue and consolidate the effort to achieve a socially just and economically viable agreement. To this end, the Government assumes responsibility for the continuation of negotiations. And all political leaders will contribute, respectively, within the institutional and political role.\u201d
\nThe referendum calls for an end to austerity and national submission. Nevertheless, the common front of the YES parties with those who defended the NO, to reach an “economically viable” agreement distorts the meaning of the NO victory and aims at turning it into its opposite.
\nThe search for an “economically viable” agreement is just another way of saying that the Greek people will continue to pay the debt at the expense of their impoverishment, privatization and cuts. A possible agreement with the EU has no other purpose than to ensure the “viability” of the broken Greek banks, which rely on ECB funding. It is an agreement to allow the \u201cleeches\u201d to preserve their interests. They are the ones who can take advantage of the permanence of Greece in the EU and the Eurozone.
\nTo stop the spiral of cuts, the labor counter-reforms, and to have home security, heating, electricity, to achieve decent pensions is necessary to break with the EU and the euro. By not stating this is the only way to comply with the program presented in the elections, Syriza makes itself an instrument to implement austerity measures, though it could restructure the debt, which everyone knows is priceless.
\nNow, with the support of ND and PASOK, Syriza\u2019s government once again generates expectations in a new “negotiation” whose goal is to achieve a “sustainable deal\u201d, that is, in exchange for “restructuring” the debt it will apply all counter-reforms required by imperialism. The Troika\u2019s demands rejected by the Greek people can\u2019t enter now through the back door.
\nSo, the people should put no confidence in this government. It is necessary to build an united front of organizations that can, in the streets and workplaces, combat the plans of the Troika and every austerity measure. Thus, building the basis for a true working class government, supported by the workers and the people in Greece and internationally. This is the only way to defeat the imperialist attack and build a proletarian solution for Greece and Europe.
\nGreek workers need to prepare to mobilize against any possible austerity plan agreement between the Syriza-ANEL government and the EU to achieve a debt restructuring.
\n– The government should order the immediate suspension of debt payment.
\n– No means No!
\n– NO to any austerity plan!
\n– No to all TROIKA\u2019s measures!
\n– NO to the Debt payment!
\n– For the immediate nationalization of the banks!
\n– For a rescue plan of the workers and the people!
\n– The victory won in the referendum should be held on the streets with the mobilization!
