\nAs you are surely following in the news, the struggle\u00a0of youth\u00a0and workers against\u00a0the increasing of the bus fare and police repression\u00a0has taken\u00a0over\u00a0S\u00e3o Paulo and other major cities in Brazil.<\/span>
\nThe\u00a0support of the population to the demonstrations\u00a0is\u00a0huge, and the number of protesters is increasing day after day, fueled by the indignation provoked by the criminal activities\u00a0of the\u00a0police forces, commanded by the governor Geraldo\u00a0Alckmin\u00a0(PSDB), who has already injured hundreds (bombed with tear gas and shot by rubber bullets) and detained a huge number of protesters (under illegal and pathetic \u201caccusations\u201d as, for instance, carrying vinegar \u2013 used as protection against the tear gas).
\nThe\u00a0shocking images\u00a0of repression\u00a0moved\u00a0the population, had international repercussions\u00a0and\u00a0recalled\u00a0the\u00a0dark days of\u00a0military dictatorship.\u00a0Again,\u00a0Alckmin,\u00a0led a\u00a0bloody\u00a0action\u00a0against the people, as he and his Militar Police did\u00a0in the massacre\u00a0of the residents of\u00a0Pinheirinho,\u00a0in S\u00e3o\u00a0Jos\u00e9\u00a0dos Campos\u00a0(SP). The same thing that they\u00a0do, every day, with the numerous\u00a0of\u00a0killings\u00a0(a truly genocide)\u00a0of\u00a0young black people in the suburbs.
\nBecause of that, today, the 17th<\/sup>\u00a0of July, the city of S. Paulo is going to be taken by what will surely be one the biggest demonstrations in our recent history. Now,\u00a0more than ever,\u00a0it’s time to\u00a0take the\u00a0streets\u00a0by the repeal\u00a0of the increase\u00a0of the passage and\u00a0against repression!
\nWe, from\u00a0\u00a0the the Socialist Workers\u2019 Party \u2013 United (PSTU) are proud to be part of the demonstrations, side by side with an increasing number of social, popular and youth organizations, and we are calling all the international organizations and activists to express the support to this struggle, through motions, messages and the organization of protests all over the world, as it has already happened in around 30 cities worldwide.
\nImmediate withdrawal<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>of the increase in<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>tickets! Punishment<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>for<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>those who ordered<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>the repression<\/b>!<\/b>Demilitarization<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>of<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>PM!<\/b>\u00a0No more massacres<\/b><\/b>
\nMeanwhile, Fernando\u00a0Haddad, the major of S. Paulo, who belongs to PT, the same party of President Dilma,insists on keeping\u00a0the\u00a0absurd\u00a0rate\u00a0of R\u00a0$ 3.20 for the bus fare.
\nDuring his electoral campaign, Haddad\u00a0used\u00a0the chaos\u00a0of public transport in\u00a0SP\u00a0to win the\u00a0votes of\u00a0workers\u00a0and youth.\u00a0He promised\u00a0a lot of things, but, so far, the\u00a0only\u00a0thing he really did\u00a0was to increase\u00a0the bus fare\u00a0to\u00a0further\u00a0the profits\u00a0of entrepreneurs.\u00a0And,\u00a0to make matters worse,\u00a0Haddad\u00a0has been\u00a0supporting\u00a0the repression\u00a0of the military police.
\nAfter the\u00a0negative impact\u00a0of police action,\u00a0on the 13th, Haddad\u00a0said he\u00a0was against\u00a0“the possible\u00a0excesses of thepolice”,\u00a0but at no time\u00a0he\u00a0condemned the\u00a0police action\u00a0or\u00a0stand\u00a0in favor of\u00a0dismissal of the\u00a0commander\u00a0responsible for\u00a0PM\u00a0repression.\u00a0But not only that.\u00a0Haddad\u00a0has\u00a0increased\u00a0bus fare\u00a0against the will\u00a0of the people!\u00a0Haddad\u00a0(PT)teamed up with\u00a0Paulo\u00a0Maluf\u00a0(PP), a well known corrupt and active supporter of the dictatorship,\u00a0to win\u00a0the city major hall\u00a0and ally himself\u00a0the\u00a0corrupt\u00a0big business\u00a0and\u00a0against\u00a0workers\u00a0and\u00a0youth.\u00a0We can not\u00a0trust this\u00a0government.
\nThe annulment of the increased passage does not end the struggle for public transport, access and quality! In S\u00e3o Paulo (SP), the population coexists with the daily chaos: crowded bus, stopped traffic and highly expensive fares! Haddad does not say the truth for the people. If the transportation fare accompanied inflation over the past ten years, the ticket price should be R$ 2.10, and not R$ 3,20. Haddad delivers R$ 6 billion a year in subsidies to large transport companies. Not by case, the same ones who financed his election campaign.
\nIf we had the investment of\u00a0\u00a02% of the national GDP in public transportation, we could nationalize the system, ensuring services with quality and for free for the need people. Because of that, PSTU defends: Nationalization, now! Against the privatization of the subway! Free pass for students and unemployed, now!
\nBroadening and unifying struggles to defeat inflation, the decrease of wages, the privatizations and repression!<\/b>
\n\u00a0<\/b>The struggle of youth and workers of S\u00e3o Paulo was the trigger for protests that are shaking dozens of cities across the country. Hundreds of acts are scheduled for the next days! It is time to unify the struggles, especially at that moment when the demonstrations (including those ones against the amazingly high and scandalous corrupt expenditures with the World Cup) are facing fierce repression of the Federal and the State police!
\nBecause of that, the PSTU also advocates unification of struggles in a national day against rising transport and repression!
\nIn the streets, the people are demonstrating that nobody is up to tolerate the indifference to education and public health, which are abandoned, as the government invests billions on overpriced stadiums for the World Cup. Inflation erodes wages and high food prices take food from the table of the worker. Therefore, we require that Dilma Rousseff (PT) to freeze food prices and tariffs!
\nThere is no doubt, as the protesters remind proudly in their chants and political slogans yelled on the streets, that this movement, besides moved by its specific demands, echoes the mobilizations of the youth and workers all over the world, in an increasing number of streets and squares: from Puerta del Sol, in the Spanish State, to Tahir, in Egypt; from Taskim, in Turkey, to Syntagma, in Greece.
\nExactly because of that, more than ever, it\u2019s time to International Solidarity. It\u2019s time to raise our voices, all over the world to remind governments, bankers and bosses that the youth and the workers will not accept to pay for the crisis created by their endless greed.
