In the first shift, at morning, the assembly was unified among all the plant\u2019s sectors gathering together around 5,000 employees, being approved by 98% of them. In the afternoon, the second shift meeting gathered together around 2,000 steelworkers who approved the agreement as well.<br \/>\nThe deal comes after a year of intense mobilizations with strikes, rallies and visits to Brasilia to push the Federal Government and the company. As of \u00a0February 2012, the Union has been standing at the head of a strong fight to prevent the company from firing 1840 workers and from closing the MVA (Motor Vehicle Assembly). GM went so far as to announce its intention to close the industrial complex of S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 dos Campos, if there were no agreement.<br \/>\nLast Saturday, January 26, the union and GM reached a draft agreement that will bring investments of R$500 million for the S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 dos Campos plant and will keep 750 employees in the production of the &#8220;Classic&#8221; model until December 2013. The layoff period, which began in August 2012, will be extended for two more months, with payment of full salary funded by GM. After this period, if there is any dismissal, the automaker will have to pay a fine of three base salaries. Individuals with employment stability (those who are injured or who are in the pre-retirement period) must mandatorily be retained as company\u2019s employees after the period of layoff.<br \/>\nThe draft agreement includes:<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0Investment o f R$ 500million allocated to the areas o f Power train(engine and transmission), Stamping and S10 in the period as from 2013 up to 2017.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0The production of the \u201cClassic\u201d model shall be maintained up to December 2013, employing 750 employees. After this period, there will be further negotiation.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0Collective holidays between January 29 and February 14, 2013 for those employees working at the \u201cClassic\u201d model production.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0Extension of layoff for two more months for those employees who are in that process. At the end of this period, if the company fires any employee, it will have to pay a fine of three salaries. The worker may choose to leave immediately and, if so he does, he will receive five salaries, plus the severance pay (the labor rights).<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0Renewal of the social clauses at the time of the Annual Collective Bargaining Agreement renewal as of 2013 until 2015. The economic clauses will be negotiated in September. In this periodt here will be no bonus.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0The\u00a0<em>PLR\u00a0<\/em>(1) shall be equal to that of 2012 plus R$ 3,200, totaling about R$16,000. In May, there will be negotiation of targets. The first portionwill be of R$6,600.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0Discussion between GM and the Union on how to anticipate the retirement for those who are in the verge of retirement.<br \/>\n\u00b7 GM agrees to negotiate first with the union, in case there is any investment project for the production of a newvehicle in Brazil.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0New wage grid for employees hired after the signing of this agreement, only for those working at the components factory (Powertrain, Stamping&amp; Plastic), with a salary floor of R$1,800.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0Working hours which allows two hours overtime a day and overtime work on Saturdays, alternately. There may be up to 12 days off a year, which will be compensated later.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0Reallocation of injured employees to compatible activities. Such reallocations must be defined together with the union.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0Guarantee of the employment level until December 2013 for the MVA employees and unti lDecember 2014 for the rest of the plant in S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 dos Campos.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0Adjustment in the job level clause at the area of materials handling, from 1203 to 900 employees.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0Guarantee of renewal\/extension of agreements of differentiated working hours (6&#215;1; shift work and working hours on Sundays upon overtime pay and a day off in the week) for a period of two years.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0Inclusion in collective bargaining agreement clause, recognizing that the period of minutes preceding and following the contracted daily journey, limited to 40 minutes a day, will not be considered as time at the company\u2019s disposal. On the assumption that job termination occurs for any worker, the union will file an action concerning the period prior to this negotiation.<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u00a0The agreement will last for two years.<br \/>\n<em>\u201cThis was not the\u00a0<\/em><em>agreement\u00a0<\/em><em>with which\u00a0<\/em><em>we dreamed of<\/em><em>,\u00a0<\/em><em>but neither was i t<\/em><em>what GM\u00a0<\/em><em>wanted<\/em><em>.\u00a0<\/em><em>It was the\u00a0<\/em><em>agreement that\u00a0<\/em><em>was\u00a0<\/em><em>possible.<\/em><em>Till the last moment<\/em><em>,\u00a0<\/em><em>the company\u00a0<\/em><em>persisted\u00a0<\/em><em>with the plan to\u00a0<\/em><em>lay off\u00a0<\/em><em>1,500 workers and\u00a0<\/em><em>close the\u00a0<\/em><em>MVA<\/em><em>.\u00a0<\/em><em>If\u00a0<\/em><em>we\u00a0<\/em><em>come this far<\/em><em>, it was\u00a0<\/em><em>by the\u00a0<\/em><em>strength of our\u00a0<\/em><em>mobilizations<\/em><em>.\u00a0<\/em><em>But it is\u00a0<\/em><em>important to emphasize\u00a0<\/em><em>that the struggle\u00a0<\/em><em>in defense of jobs\u00a0<\/em><em>and rights\u00a0<\/em><em>continues<\/em><em>, since\u00a0<\/em><em>the agreement\u00a0<\/em><em>includes\u00a0<\/em><em>the production<\/em><em>of\u00a0<\/em><em>Classic<\/em><em>only\u00a0<\/em><em>until December\u201d<\/em>, says the president of the Union, Antonio\u201cMacap\u00e1\u201d Ferreira de Barros.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/litci.org\/especial\/index.php\/morals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/litci.org\/en\/images\/image\/selo_moral_eng.jpg?w=723\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe Union will continue demanding from the Federal Government practical measures in favor of the workers.&nbsp;<br \/>\n<em>&#8220;<\/em><em>The federal government\u00a0<\/em><em>gives\u00a0<\/em><em>tax exemptions\u00a0<\/em><em>to automakers<\/em><em>,\u00a0<\/em><em>that are with\u00a0<\/em><em>sales\u00a0<\/em><em>and profits\u00a0<\/em><em>upward but<\/em><em>h as no<\/em><em>measures to ensure\u00a0<\/em><em>the jobs of workers<\/em><em>.<\/em><em>We need a\u00a0<\/em><em>national\u00a0<\/em><em>collective agreement\u00a0<\/em><em>that guarantees\u00a0<\/em><em>minimal working conditions\u00a0<\/em><em>in\u00a0<\/em><em>the country&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em><em>automakers\u00a0<\/em><em>and\u00a0<\/em><em>prevents\u00a0<\/em><em>the blackmail\u00a0<\/em><em>attempting\u00a0<\/em><em>to\u00a0<\/em><em>l<\/em><em>ower the wages and\u00a0<\/em><em>the\u00a0<\/em><em>rights\u201d<\/em>, said the Union General Secretary, Luiz CarlosPrates.<br \/>\n<strong>Additional\u00a0<\/strong><strong>polls<\/strong><br \/>\nAt today&#8217;s meeting, the workers observed a minute of silence in tribute to the victims of the fire at Kiss Nightclub, which left 237 dead in the city of Santa Maria (RS).<br \/>\nIt also was as approved a motion of support to the strikes at the automakers Peugeot, Citroen and PSA in France and sympathyto the struggle of the GM metal workers in Germany, the United States and Colombia, defending the international unity of workers.<br \/>\n<em>(1)<\/em><em>PLR &#8211;\u00a0<\/em><em>Profit and Results Sharing<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Metalworkers Union of S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 dos Campos Monday, 04 February 2013 04:26 General Motors\u2019 workers in S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 dos Campos,approved on Monday, January 28, the agreement proposed by the United Steelworkers and by the automaker.
