Until Amy Klobuchar dropped out of the Democratic Party race on the eve of Super Tuesday voting, many saw her as a stopgap lesser evil for the 2020 presidential election. In fact, Klobuchar represents the legacy of Democratic Party racism, imperialism, and war.<\/p>\n

In recent memory, it was the Democratic Party\u2019s Bill Clinton that perpetuated people of color in prison and was his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who coined the phrase \u201csuper-predator\u201d against Black youth. It was the Democratic Party\u2019s Barrack Obama who incarcerated the largest number of immigrants in this country. And it is Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders who both promote U.S. imperialist policies abroad.<\/p>\n

Days before Klobuchar\u2019s withdrawal from the presidential race, protesters outside Minneapolis shut down a rally for her campaign by occupying the stage and demanding that she address the concerns over her 2003 prosecution of Myon Burrell on flimsy murder charges when she served as the Hennepin County attorney. The protesters held signs reading \u201cShame!\u201d and demanded that Klobuchar meet with Burrell\u2019s family to hear their grievances.<\/p>\n

Myon\u00a0Burrell was convicted for the first-degree murder of 11-year-old Tyesha Edwards, who was\u00a0shot by a stray bullet while in her home.\u00a0At 16 years old,\u00a0Burrell\u00a0was\u00a0arrested, along with Hans Williams and Ike\u00a0Tyson. Burrell lost his appeal in a court hearing in 2008, when Klobuchar was serving in the U.S. Senate.<\/p>\n

While running for the U.S. Senate in 2006, Klobuchar laid stress on her reactionary\u00a0\u201ctough on crime\u201d\u00a0rhetoric.\u00a0While running for president,\u00a0Klobuchar\u00a0has boasted of how she\u00a0brings \u201cjustice\u201d to Black\u00a0communities\u00a0in regard to shootings.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I came into that office, we worked with the community groups, we put up billboards, we found the shooter and we put him in\u00a0jail, “she\u00a0said\u00a0about another shooting\u00a0victim.\u00a0 In response to\u00a0Burrell\u2019s case, she said,\u00a0\u201cWe did the same for the killer of a little girl named Tyesha Edwards who was doing her homework at her kitchen table and was shot through the window.\u201d<\/p>\n

Early in February, the Associated Press reported flaws in Klobuchar\u2019s case against Burrell, including the facts that police had found no weapon and that the key testimony came from only one person, who was considered a \u201crival\u201d of the defendant. Also, an\u00a0investigator\u00a0was caught\u00a0giving\u00a0cash for\u00a0suspect\u00a0hearsay.<\/p>\n

Burrell has sought a new trial\u00a0to consider new evidence.\u00a0He says today of\u00a0former Hennepin County Prosecutor\u00a0Klobuchar: \u201cShe recharged me with first-degree murder, never looked into the facts of the case.\u00a0Never\u00a0looked into\u00a0the misconduct that had taken place. Never even addressed the misconduct that had taken place and still put the same detective, the same police on my case to go and get more bogus evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burrell believes that Klobchuar is the reason why he is in jail. \u201cYes, I feel like she played a big part.
