CUBA IN DEBATE<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n
Seldom has the status of a particular country, in this case Cuba, put to revolutionary Marxist organizations so many demands on the terrain of analysis, theory and politics. These demands are so crucial that any answer given to them, correct or incorrect, could determine the future of these organizations.
\nThe capitalism restoration in Eastern Europe and the Stalinist apparatus destruction oblige us to study the Cuban reality, its revolutionary process and its leadership, under a new milestone. A new landmark that could not be witnessed by the Marxism masters, because it did not exist in their time. However, the fact that we are facing new problems cannot drive us to the conclusion, at which many activists have arrived, that the current reality is not “more of the same\u201d or that we should \u00a0“start from scratch\u201d, or that we must “rebuild \u00a0the revolutionary program”.
\nFor us, the role of the imperialism, of the bourgeoisie, of the bureaucracy, of the working class or of the class struggle, is “more of the same\u201d. Therefore, to rebuild the revolutionary program is not in question, but, otherwise, to update it in light of the major and new developments. Therefore, we don\u2019t start from the very beginning to analyze the Cuban reality. We\u2019re based on the elaborations of Marx, Engels, Lenin and Trotsky on the world economy, on the class struggle, on the role of the State, on the character and role of bureaucracy and also on elaborations of some Marxist writers who were contemporaries of the Cuban revolution itself.
\nWe introduce in this special study on Cuba some articles by authors belonging to our trend, written in the past 10 years, as well as LIT-CI’s statements about the events of reality, like Orlando Zapata Tamayo death, and the 500,000 layoffs plan. They have been previously published in Marxism Alive<\/em> or International Courier<\/em>, and in other cases, in this very site. The unifying element of all these materials is the definition that the capitalism has already been restored in Cuba, the reasoning for this definition and, in many cases, the controversy with other organizations or authors.
\nWe hope to contribute to the Cuban process study in a revolutionary perspective.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
