The Peruvian masses have taken to the streets. They have continued to battle the forces of capitalism and repression in their country since early December, when the traditional right-wing parties in the country ousted Pedro Castillo, then president at the time. While Pedro Castillo was a leftist president only in name — in practice, he implemented neoliberal austerity much like his predecessors. His ouster represents an authoritarian power grab by the traditional, white, oligarchical parties that have dominated Peru for centuries. In response, Peruvians, in the largely Indigenous and rural southern regions of the country, have blockaded roads, fought the police, sustained military violence, and struck, demanding democratic elections, the resignation of current president Dina Boluarte, and a constituent assembly.
Join us  on Saturday, January 28th, at 10am PST as we listen to our comrades from the Peruvian Socialist Workers’ Party and the Colombian Socialist Workers’ Party share their revolutionary perspective on this crisis. We will have a series of panelists from these organizations present, followed by open discussion and closing remarks by the presenters.
